I see a lot of students and potential students come in. I usually ask them what it is they are interested in learning on the instrument, what sort of goals they have, what they would like to achieve. When I probe a little further, for example, asking if they would like to achieve X or Y as-well as Z; they tell me, “no, I’ll never be able to do X and Y. I just want to do Z.”.
Henry Ford once said:
“If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.”
And it is as simple as that.
Now while it is as simple as that… I understand that it is not as easy as that.
To give you the hugely condensed version that I give to students, you don’t need to worry about what you can and can’t do, all you have to do is what I tell you do. I will worry about what you can and can’t do… and solve it for you!
